Mrs. Fields, Rich’s make new concoction

The Buffalo-based company is producing an egg-free cookie dough snack for Mrs. Fields that is set to debut. Served in different flavors, including traditional chocolate chip cookie and chocolate chip brownie, the snack is designed for those who like eating raw cookie dough but were concerned about health issues, chiefly because of the egg products used in the dough.

The new product, three years in the making by Rochester native Donna Reeves-Collins, who is also Rich Products Consumer Brands managing director of confections, is available in all 72 Wegmans Food Markets , Mrs. Fields outlets in shopping malls and all nine Tom Wahl’s restaurants in Rochester.

“The market is huge,” Reeves-Collins said. “We’re taking it national, but we are starting it in Western New York.”

Reeves-Collins said the dough is safe to eat without cooking. She noted that 65 percent of those polled, admitted they eat raw cookie dough, despite the raw egg health concerns.

Because her product is egg-free, it is also a relatively healthy item. Six pieces equal 100 calories, Reeves-Collins said.
